At Polaroid for 23 years, Wally contributed to various new business and technology start-up activities in the role of Human Resource and Organizational Development professional. A large part of his work was devoted, therefore, to the transformation of the capacity of individuals and organizations in order to thrive in the face of challenges from technology and market changes. This included the facilitation of large system/cultural change initiatives, such as Total Quality Management, Socio-Tech Redesign, and Future Search.
International experience:
Wally was the lead person for the organizational design for a new Polaroid de Mexico manufacturing facility in Queretaro, Mexico. Prior to Polaroid, he was Associate Professor for six years at the Pontifical University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, where he lead the establishment of the Center of Teacher Training and Certification (a VISTA-like program sponsored by the Brazilian government). In Latin America, he also was Assistant Director of Training for the National Federation of Saving Cooperatives of Bolivia, as part of Peace Corps sponsored project.
Education:
Wally did his undergraduate studies at the University of Connecticut (History and Political Science) and graduate work at Boston University (MBA). He is a Massachusetts certified bi-lingual teacher for Spanish and Portuguese.
Personal Information
Wally speaks Spanish (Latin American) and Portuguese (Brazilian) fluently, and has a working knowledge of French. His avocation is archeology, including short stints at Machu Picchu (Peru) and Tikal (Guatemala).
